PART III: Villa Caceres
After checking out of NagaLand Hotel, I hailed a tricycle to bring me and my suitcase to Villa Caceres in Magsaysay Ave., because despite the P2500+ room rate, Villa Caceres could not be bothered to pick me up from Centro (apparently their vans only go to and from the airport). But finally, a proper hotel! Oh, joy!
Villa Caceres is around 500 meters away from ADC Hotel. There were less fast food chains and banks nearby, but other establishments are within walking distance. Bob Marlin, a popular grill restaurant famous for their crispy pasta, is just a short walk away.
For my last night in Naga, I stayed in a Standard room with a view of Magsaysay ave. I particularly liked how the room appeared bright and airy during daytime. I immediately started making a mental list of all the amenities in this room – in the process, one of the closet doors fell on my foot (the hotel staff took the heavy thing away, so it’s wide open in the photo below). After staying at two budget hotels, I couldn’t let that dampen my mood and just looked at the bright side. I could picture myself staying in that room comfortably for 3 nights. Oh if you were wondering about that list: there’s a bath robe, in-room safe, dresser, table and two chairs, water kettle, instant coffee and a set of toiletries.
But this Victorian-inspired 3-star hotel had much more to offer. It has a grand lobby, three swimming pools, a jacuzzi, fitness center, and banquet halls perfect for weddings and various events.
Breakfast was served in the courtyard, with buffet tables arranged around what seemed like a Victorian style fountain. There was a wide selection of dishes, but remember to come in early as they don’t replenish the food trays at the last hour. Most of the catering trays were empty by the time I ate, which was a little past 9AM.
In the end I was able to try the hotel’s airport shuttle, which they packed with hotel guests and suitcases. This was unlike my more pleasant experience with ADC Hotel’s airport shuttle where I felt like a VIP seated in a captain seat of their brand new van, with only one other guest, but maybe that was just good timing. Overall I felt that the most expensive hotel I stayed in turned out to be the most practical. I wouldn’t have minded staying in Villa Caceres a little longer.
