PART II: The NagaLand Hotel
I was ready to head back home on the 2nd day because I was feeling unwell, but I would have had to pay over P7700 for a one-way trip. No, thanks! I figured I might as well spend that on food, tours and/or another hotel. I booked the cheapest room at the NagaLand Hotel for P950 and their driver picked me up at the airport. Back to the city then!
The NagaLand Hotel is located in the downtown area called Centro. I set my expectations low, knowing fully well that it was a budget hotel and I had selected their most basic room. Centro is a lot more crowded and congested than Magsaysay Ave., with jeepneys passing the narrow roads, and people crossing to and from the nearby mall. It reminded me of Manila. Maybe Cubao. ADC Hotel didn’t seem so bad to me at that moment.
Inside my standard room, I found the barest essentials. The room was clean and the bed comfy. I had a TV, air-conditioning and wifi, a small cabinet for my things. That’s about it. My nose was still runny but I was starting to feel better too. There’s less furniture in this room so I suppose there was no place for dust to accumulate!
The bathroom tiles and design were not only outdated and needed an upgrade, but also seemed a little gross. I couldn’t complain because what more would I expect for P950? However I told my boyfriend about the bathroom situation on Viber and he surprised me by booking a room at Villa Caceres for the following night. (Thank you!!!)
At night I nudged the bed to block the door, just in case someone tried to break in (nobody did and I slept like a baby).
On the upside, the free plated breakfast at NagaLand Hotel was better than expected. It was served in this cute restaurant at the ground floor, White Bean. Since food was cooked upon order, it was served hot. Freshly cooked food just tastes better.
I personally prefer the Magsaysay Ave. area but all-in-all, my stay at NagaLand was good! For the price I paid, it was worth it. Props to the driver who picked me up from the airport. He was incredibly friendly and shared tips on where to go, what to eat, and what to try in Naga.
